Seventy kms of rolling farmland in Belgium and France brought us to Lens. We found the Canadian memorial at Vimy. with some difficulty, as it is a bit out of the way. Just as we began to lose hope, small Canadian flags began to appear on road signs and after a long climb we were atop Vimy Ridge.
The monument is immense and the location breathtaking; the remainder of the hill is so heavily littered with unexploded shells that it is inaccessible.
We are now in Arras, which sadly has no camping so we are sequestered on the top floor of a tiny hotel on the main square. The view from our window is pretty cool!
Tomorrow looks like a train day ...
