Waterworld

Since we left Arles and started across the Camargue, we have been surrounded by water. Much of our route has been along sand spits, with ocean on one side and marsh or brackish lakes on the other. We have had hours along quite good bike roads, with dunes holding back the sea and glimpses of blue through the beach access points. We have passed through a series of beach resorts, most looking abandoned and exhausted after the departure of summer.

The contrast of the port city of Sete surprised us; it gave the sense of a city hard at work, and was alive and vibrant.

We continue to enjoy warm, humid weather with regular rains and occasional storms. The volume seems to be unusual - there are lots of puddles and some evidence of flooding (though nothing like other areas are experiencing).

Off to Narbonne today, with a general Spain-ward trend.

  1. Did Bib recommend this road?! Looks very scenic with the well-placed cyclist :). Enjoying your posts, take care, SJ (& DM)
